Richard O. Petzing, 93, of Peru, formerly of Tonica and Wenona, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Manor Court of Peru.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru with Rev. Tom Redig, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tonica with full military rites conducted by the Tonica American Legion. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Mr. Petzing was born February 4, 1929 in Peoria to Oscar and Margaret (Parr) Petzing. He graduated from Manual High School, Peoria. Mr. Petzing was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany with the 43rd Infantry Division and the 118th Medical Battalion from 1952-1953. He married Helen Herrmann on July 24, 1955 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tonica.
Mr. Petzing was a farmer in Tonica, worked at Sundstrand, Letterkraft Printers, and retired as a printing pressman at Sigma Graphics. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru. Mr. Petzing loved woodworking, traveling alongside his wife, Helen, to all 50 states and Europe, and he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Peru; three children, Janice (Terry) Hoge of Wenona, Dale (Connie) Petzing of Lafayette, IN, and Lynn (Victor) Bosteels of Lecanto, FL; one grandson, Brad Petzing; three step-grandchildren, Melissa Golden, Kristin Bosteels, and Elizabeth (Brad) Lajoie; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Dippel of Granville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marjorie Viehl.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
