Phoebe Harman Obituary

BURLINGTON - Phoebe Norville Harman, 71, died Friday Nov. 7, 2014, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington. A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, where she was a member. Dr. Ron Shive will be officiating. There will be a private burial at Brittain Presbyterian Church in Rutherfordton, N.C.
Phoebe was born on May 11, 1943, to Dr. and Mrs. William L. Norville in Whitmire, S.C., at her father's medical clinic. She graduated from Walter Williams High School and Guilford College. She was the wife for 53 years to J. Patrick Harman of the home.
She was active in her community, her loving family and her church. In the truest meaning, she was a giver, mentor and philanthropist. She loved all holidays. She adored all her family and they adored her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons David L. Harman of Burlington, and Patrick H. Harman and wife Susan S. Harman of High Point; grandchildren Alison D. Harman, Meredith L. Harman and Cary E. Crawford; sisters Barbara Norville Wallace and husband William Wallace of Greenville, S.C. and Laura Norville Morin and husband Randall Morin of Hagerstown, Md.; niece Melanie Stewart and husband Andy Stewart along with their children Emily Stewart and Jackson Stewart; niece Larkin Hegler and husband Will Hegler and their children Mary Larkin Hegler and Clayton Hegler; nephew Will Wallace; niece Ashley Morin and nephew Randy Morin and wife Beth Morin and their children Leif Morin, Logan Morin and Kade Morin. She leaves a multitude of friends who enhanced her life and gave her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Janak Choksi and the other doctors and nurses who provided such gentle and compassionate care during her time at the Cancer Center and at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A special thanks to Pat Glenn and Lisa Glenn for their wonderful assistance, care and guidance for Phoebe during the nights at home and in the hospital.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Cancer Center or The Norville Breast Care Center of Alamance Regional Medical Center, 1240 Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.

I was in high school with Phoebe, and always had a warm spot in my heart for her. She was a sweet and kind person as a young girl and I'm sure that she was even more so in later life.
