Ann Yeago Obituary
Ann Brower Yeago, 99, of Hermitage Road, Waynesboro, died peacefully at the home of her son Daniel of Charlottesville, surrounded by her family on Monday, June 20, 2022.
Ann was born on March 2, 1923, to her late parents, David Earl and Ruth Brower of Hermitage, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, Meredith E. Yeago and her five brothers, David, Walter, Robert, James, and William Brower.
Ann graduated from Fishersville High School in 1942 where she was active in the Future Homemakers of America, Glee Club, and Student Council. She maintained those school day friendships throughout the years, meeting with members of her class quarterly until their last luncheon at The Purple Foot in September 2019, when the four surviving friends were in their late 90s. The entire restaurant stood to applaud them as they came in using walkers, portable oxygen, and wheelchairs. Ann smiled and said, “Wonder what all the fuss is about?�
Ann met Meredith at the annual Farm Bureau picnic at Sherando Lake in the summer of 1941 and they were married at Grace Lutheran Church of Waynesboro in 1947. While her husband Meredith attended the University of Virginia, Ann worked as a seamstress at Henderson Irvin in Charlottesville. Once Meredith graduated, they raised their three sons in Staunton, Virginia, becoming members of Staunton's Christ Evangelical Church where they have been active members for 72 years. Ann sang in the choir and participated in the church sewing circle and Bible studies. She also served as her sons' Cub Scout den mother. She and Meredith enjoyed growing roses and maintaining vegetable gardens at their Staunton home as well as their Waynesboro home, where she cared for her mother in her final years. After retirement she and Meredith took Blue Ridge Community College horticulture classes together and visited national parks. She hosted numerous delicious family dinners that included homegrown garden offerings, fresh or canned, and always beautiful roses decorating the table. She served her family so well caring, cooking, and sewing for them and enjoying grandchildren and great grandchildren. Quite recently she watched smiling as her 2 year old great grandson, Joey, made applesauce using the ricer she used to make homemade applesauce for so many family dinners. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and she will surely be missed.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, John (Donna) of Stuarts Draft, Thomas (Sharon Angle) of Staunton, and Daniel (Desiree) of Charlottesville. Her grandchildren include Jacob (Jesica), Marcus (MaryBeth), Taylor (Emily), Adriana, Bryan (Danielle), Cory (Emilia), and David (Victoria). There are seven great-grandchildren, Silas, Joey, Sawyer, Oaklyn, Jaxton, and twin baby girls Olivia and Kinsley.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Staunton, with Pastor Robert McCarty presiding. Interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church of Staunton, 2807 N Augusta Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
