Clara McCarthy Obituary

ROANOKE - Clara V. Woods McCarthy, 71, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday (July 6, 2005).

She was born Sept. 16, 1933, to the late Robert Woods Sr. and Elizabeth Rose Woods in Augusta County, Va.

Clara was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Ray McCarthy and Clifford E. McCarthy; and one brother, William T. Woods Sr.

Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, William M. (Cathy) McCarthy Jr. of Roanoke, Ricky D. (Sharon) McCarthy of Charlotte, N.C., Larry Ronnie McCarthy and Randy J. (Linda) McCarthy, both of Roanoke; one daughter, Doretha J. Brooks of Roanoke; one brother, Robert Woods of Staunton; one sister, Alee Washington of Waynesboro; 28 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind special close friends, Helen Saunders, Gertrude Preston, Maude McFadden, Mary Cannadday and Kay Wormack; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Monday (July 11, 2005) at Shiloh Baptist Church, 40 East Burwell St., Salem, Va., with the Rev. Adrian Dowell officiating. The interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
