Harry Dahl Obituary

Harry, beloved husband, father, and grandfather died Friday, September 30, 2005. He was born in Hot Springs, VA on November 30, 1934 to Elmer Frank Martin and Lucille (Mitchell) Dahl. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy Payne Dahl, to whom he was married June 30, 1956; their daughter, Debra Marie Caldwell and her son, Matthew Douglass Caldwell; their son, Allen Payne Dahl and his wife, Carolyn, and their children, Hannah Rose Dahl, Oliver Payne Dahl, and Sophie Mae Dahl; their son, Thomas Payne Dahl, and his wife, Kristin, and their children, Ashley Jordan Dahl and Sarah Katherine Dahl, and another grandchild expected early next year, all of Staunton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Louise and Kenneth D. Houser of Wilmington, Del. and Elizabeth and Joe C. Shaner of Lexington; two sisters-in-law, Fleecie Dahl of Wilmington, Del. and Barbara Cooper, of Staunton; a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Graham of Mankato, Minn.; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sisterin-law, Mitchell and Robert Dahl and Charles and Lucy Thompson Dahl; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lucille and John Hassett; his father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Harry W. and Reba C. Payne; and a sister-in-law, Marie P. Graham. Harry was a 1952 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Virginia Tech in 1956. He established Triangle Realtors/Builders in 1970. When the children returned from college, they and Harry and Nancy operated this family business together, building and operating numerous businesses. They had a loving business and family relationship. Harry was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he held various positions, including serving on the Church Council. In recent years he and Nancy had reconnected with some of their high school friends and enjoyed many good times together. Harry particularly enjoyed the coffee club of friends on Wednesday mornings. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday (October 4, 2005) in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Cynthia Long Lasher. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Waller Callison, Joe Shomo, Julian Moffett, Chuck Neer, Frank Black, Bill Hutton, Ken Frank, and Jim Hinton. The family will receive friends from 3 until 7 p.m. today (Oct. 2, 2005) at their home, 100 Trace Circle, and friends may call anytime Sunday or Monday (Oct. 3, 2005) in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Endowment Fund, 2807 N. Augusta Street, Staunton, Va. 24401.

I was out of town and didn't hear about Harry until this morning. I'm so sorry and share your sorrow. Harry was a great man and loved his family. I will miss him, but will never forget him....

While spending the summer in Staunton I was honored to be invited to the Wednesday coffee. Harry was the life of the party and he made me feel right at home. Doady and I share your sorrow. We have been blessed to have known Harry even a short time.
