James Harmon Obituary

James Phillips Harmon, 56, passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday February 11, 2024 at home with his family in Boron, California after a brief battle with bone cancer. Born on March 23, 1967 he was the son of the late James Harmon, Jr. and the late Edna Harmon of Waynesboro, Virginia. Besides his parents James was preceded in death by his niece Kristina Harmon and brother Thomas Matthew Harmon. James grew up in Waynesboro and attended Waynesboro High School and Valley Vocational Technical Center for Welding in Fishersville, VA. He was a very talented lead guitar player in his early years and played in a few local rock bands. He earned his CDL at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, VA. At New River Community College in Dublin, VA he completed Pipe Welding and Machine Shop program. At Piedmont Community College in Yanceyville, NC, he completed a Welding Program. He studied Art at Bluefield State University in Bluefield, WVA. He worked at RS Boyers Heating/Air in Lyndhurst, VA and McKee Baking Co. in Stuarts Draft, VA. He was a truck driver for some time. He worked mostly in construction for private construction companies. From 2014 until 2023 he was self-employed as a House Remodeler in Pelham, NC and in Southern California. He had interests in dirt bikes, welding, animal and gardening. He was beloved by his family and friends. In his remaining years he spent most of his free time with his youngest son in California. He lived healthy most of his life, until health issues in the late 2023 followed by a diagnosis of cancer in early 2024. He was a member of Martinsville Seventh Day Adventist Church in Martinsville, VA. Near his home he attended Barstow Seventh Day Adventist Church in Barstow, CA. Surviving him are his son James David Harmon of Staunton, Virginia; son Alexander Cassidy Harmon of Boron, California, brother Paul Harmon (Amy) of Lyndhurst; brother John Harmon (Lori) of Craigsville; Evert Gibson, (Donnie Sue) uncle and aunt of Concord, North Carolina, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins.

A private memorial service will be held by his family. Memorial contributions can be sent to Friends of the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, 1001 Mt. Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, Virginia 22952.

hadnt seen you since i was a small kid but do remember you clearly you were my dads best friend and i can say the best one. i use to braid your hair when it was long lol and you didnt careyou played with us, u were like a big to us and absolutely the best family friend. rip jimmy and alot of prayers for your family.
