Lillian Duncan Obituary

BRIDGEWATER - Lillian Ruth (Eckard) Duncan, 95, widow of John K. Duncan Sr., died Wednesday (Jan. 11, 2006) in the Bridgewater Retirement Home, Bridgewater. She was born Dec. 30, 1910 in Highland Co., a daughter of William A. and Hannah Cornelia (Smith) Eckard. Mrs. Duncan was a retired hairdresser. She was previously employed by Henry Funeral Home as a hairdresser for 15 years. She was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church where she had been an active member in the Winmore Bible Class and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Beverley Chapter #78, and AARP. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Eckard; and a sister, Billy (Ethel) Allison. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, John K. Duncan II and Julie H. Duncan, of Oak Island, N.C.; a daughter, Linda D. Tracy of Mount Sidney; two brothers, I. Kermit Eckard of Bridgewater and Julian C. Eckard of King George; two grandsons, Justin K. Duncan and Jordan K. Duncan; a great-grandson, Jacob K. Duncan; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 14, 2006) in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. C. Douglas Akers. The family will receive friends from Noon-1:30 p.m. prior to the service in the Henry Funeral Home. It was the request of Mrs. Duncan that memorials be made to Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church, 1614 West Beverley Street, Staunton, Va., 24401 or to the Bridgewater Retirement Home, Inc., 302 N. Main Street, Bridgewater, Va., 22812.
