Gary Stone Obituary
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cliff, Ellis, Estel, Jesse, and John; sisters, Pearl, Lenora, Viola, Alberta, Martha, Gladys, and Jean; and his youngest son, Johnny Dale Stone.
He is survived by his little white-haired wife of 69 years, Lillian Pence Stone; five children, Rose Ellen Ruggles, Linda Kay Stone Dilts, Douglas Audie (Susie) Stone, Gary Lee (Polly) Stone, and William W. Stone; five grandchildren, Derek Doyle, Damon Doyle, Katy Dilts, Kristin (Tom) Edgar, and Eli (Brittany) Stone; two great grandchildren, Dylan Doyle, and Lincoln Stone; and a great-great grandchild, Dayton Doyle.
Gary proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1953, earning a Korean Service Ribbon, Bronze Campaign Star, United Nations Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He retired from CSX Corporation, Raceland, Kentucky after thirty years of service. He was a skilled welder, sheet metal worker, and pipe fitter. He loved animals, and riding and training horses was a joy. He enjoyed a special bond with several dogs over the years leaving behind "Goldie".
He attended the Anchor of Hope Church in Waverly, Ohio. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly and strived to love his neighbor as himself, often saying "People are the most important thing, God loves people." He loved his family more than anything in this world He leaves behind a Christian legacy hoping for everyone to place their faith in "his Jesus".
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Boyer Funeral Home, Waverly, Ohio with Pastor Don Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Bailey Chapel Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio with graveside military honors preformed by American Legion Post #142.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the beginning of the service on Tuesday.
