John Carrow Obituary

John E. 'Jack' Carrow, 65

DOVER - John E. "Jack" Carrow of Dover died Saturday, March 17, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 65.

Mr. Carrow was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Dover, son of the late John G. and Elsie (Hufnal) Carrow.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam, where wounds from a land mine explosion left him paralyzed and forced his retirement from service.

Mr. Carrow enjoyed playing cards, bowling, the casino, playing pool and especially teaching his nephews and nieces how to play. He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2 and the Capital Grange. He was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel, Md.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Rita Hart.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Carrow of Dover; a daughter, Tina Strauss and her husband Rick of Dover; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Logan and Connor Strauss, all of Dover; a sister, Joyce Cristiano and her husband Chris of Dover; a nephew, Matthew Cristiano and his wife Kelly and their son Giovanni, all of Warwick, Md.; a niece, Lisa Cristiano of Northeast, Md.; his mother-in-law, Lillian Weaver of Dover; his brothers-in-law, Frank Ergenzinger and his wife Delores, Ed Ergenzinger and his wife Lois, Walt Ergenzinger and his wife Ginger and Carl Ergenzinger, all of Dover; his sisters-in-law, Cecelia Long and her husband Ernest of Wyoming, and Marie Hagood of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Elizabeth Fueller.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel.

Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Home of the Brave-Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford DE 19963; or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Marydel, MD 21649.
