Norman Paul Jones

DOVER - Norman Paul Jones, M.D., passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware. Dr. Jones was born in Washington, D.C. to the late George P. Jones and Louise A. Nalley Jones. Norman worked for The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Maryland and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps before attending the Georgetown and George Washington Universities. He graduated from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine in 1957 and completed his internship at Mercy Hospital, Baltimore, and his residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Howard, Maryland. Dr. Jones began the private practice of internal medicine in Dover in 1961. He was an emergency department physician at Kent General for 19 years and was named the hospital's first Vice President of Medical Affairs in 1998. Dr. Jones was also a part time plant physician for General Foods for 22 years. He retired in 1997 at the age of 72. Norman loved collecting antiques, repairing clocks, and vegetable gardening. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara "Clare" Jones; and his sister, Marilyn Marton. He is survived by his five children; Mary and her husband Keith, Paula, and her husband Peter, Barbara, and her husband James, Bernard Jones, and Stephen and his wife Marie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Patrick and his wife Melanie, Michael, and Katharine, as well as his great grandson Gavin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE, followed by interment at Holy Cross cemetery. The family wish to convey their sincere gratitude for the concern and sympathy expressed by Norman's friends and Holy Cross parishioners.
