Norris Hall Obituary

Dover - Norris Morgan Hall left this earthly life for this heavenly home on his 81st birthday, March 29, 2016. He was born in the farmhouse on his Sparks' grandparents farm near his hometown, Church Hill on a blustery spring day. Born to the late Edith Sparks Hall and N. Morgan Hall, Norris spent all of his childhood and most of his adult years in Queen Annes County, Maryland. He moved to Westminster Village in Dover, Del. in September of 2011. He graduated from Centreville High School in 1953, where he was active in clubs and was a member of the varsity basketball team. He continued his education at the University of Delaware where he majored in Civil Engineering. While there he met the love of his life, Harriette Dawson whom he later married and started a life together which spanned over 61 years. Norris' first major construction project was the building of the segment of US Rt 301 through Price, Maryland. This was Norris' start in the road construction field which continued for the rest of his working life. He worked for such companies as F.P. Asher and Sons; James Julian and Sons and David A. Bramble Inc., for whom he was employed for over 26 years. In January of 1986, Norris fulfilled a lifelong dream by forming his own business, Mid-Shore Paving Company. Together with his wife Harriette they grew the business to become a well-known and respected paving company in the middle eastern shore area. In 1992 Norris and Harriette retired after selling their company to Genstar Stone Products. He continued as a consultant to them as well as several other companies as well as managing several rental properties in Maryland and Florida. High on Norris' list of priorities was attending sports and other activities of his three children and his grandchildren. Norris was always active in churches he attended, the lengthiest membership being First United Methodist Church in Chestertown, Maryland where he was a member for over 40 years. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the church for over 20 years. He also served on various committees and other activities. During the years of Church League basketball in Kent County, Md., Norris coached the girl's team where he led them to two championships. He took great pride in being a coach and mentor to this group of girls. Under his leadership the church established a scholarship fund for worthy high school graduates of their congregation. Community service was important to Norris. He was a former president of the Church Hill Lions Club and a member of Chestertown Elks Lodge #2474. Norris served on the Board of Governor's and was a past president of the Chester River Yacht and Country Club. He was a current member of Maple Dale Country Club in Dover, Del., where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with his new-found Dover friends. Norris' hobbies were golfing, reading, traveling, bridge and establishing a backyard sanctuary for birds. In addition to his parents, Norris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar and Rose Sparks and Theobold and Sarah Katherine (Sally) Hall; as well as a daughter, Doris Ann Ferguson Heasley in 2010.
