Wetherall, 'Bob', 77
DOVER - Robert Shaw Wetherall, "Bob", a longtime resident of Dover, Del., passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., after an extended illness.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Robert and Elizabeth Shaw Wetherall of Wilmington Manor and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
He is survived by twin sons, Gerritt C. Wetherall of Dover, Del., and Robert G. Wetherall (Sarah), as well as Bob's namesake grandson, Robbie, age 5, of Pennsville, N.J.
Bob was a graduate of William Penn High School in Wilmington, Del., and received both bachelor's and master's degrees in history from the University of Delaware, as well as a Master of Science in Library Science from Drexel University. After college, Bob served four years in the United States Air Force as a sergeant and a foreign language translator, at which time he also held the position of adjunct history instructor for the University of Maryland.
Bob dedicated his life to his career in library services, serving as Assistant Director and then Director of the Cumberland County Library in Bridgeton, N.J., Director of the Dover Public Library in Dover, Del., and the Gloucester County Library System in Mullica Hill, N.J. Most recently Bob served as a technical consultant and E-books librarian for the Delaware State Library in Dover, Del.
A memorial service will be held at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover, Del., on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the public libraries listed above.

Bob was the first President of the South Jersey Regional Library Cooperative in 1986 and I was the first Executive Director. Bob remained a staunch supporter for the next 24 years. He was brilliant, a great leader and an entertaining speaker as well as the possessor of a snarky sense of humor. Bob was the real deal and a great friend. He will be long remembered in the New Jersey Library Community.
