Susan Chandler Obituary

Susan Chandler was active in local quilting and gardening groups and a supporter of the arts. She was a committed advocate for people with disabilities and she inspired many others to join the movement to remove stigmas and barriers for all. She was an extrovert and found meaning and joy in her interactions with others. We came to think of her as our own "force of nature" for her endless energy, enthusiasm and activities. She is survived by her loving husband Ed, son John (Kerry), daughter Margaret (Brett), stepsons Lee and Michael, grandchildren Max, Emily, Geoffrey and grandnephew Wyatt, sisters Priscilla (Ed) and Margaret and sisters-in-law Peg and Teddy. A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 27 at 11am at the United Church of Christ at 11245 Los Osos Valley Road in SLO. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

She was indeed a force of nature. I recall her getting me to drive her to a great quilt show, that was farther than I was comfortable driving, but I was glad I'd done it! I knew her from disability activism; my late husband, George Moore, was president of CDR, and when he became ill, she took over. We bonded over quilts too.
That next question should include disability work as an answer!

Sorry to be learning Just now of her death. Our paths did not cross very often, but when they did, it was always a pleasure. Her strength and perseverance always served as a reminder about what one should not take fore-granted. She traveled with grace and intensity, reminding us all that what is in our heart and brain tells our true self. I am very glad that our paths crossed, even if the intervals were spaced too far apart.
Take good care,
Crissa Hewitt

RIP dear lady as I saw you many times at WW and so many other events that you never let disability get you down and you always looked so pretty. May your family and friends know you were liked and admired for your spirit and voice.

We greatly admired Susan for all that she was. She was the most active community activist I will ever know...nothing slowed her down ever. She would often call over for Bob (Robert is what she always called him) for help with chores she could not do on her own. She was a giving loving person and nothing slowed her down. We will miss her very much

I was so sorry to hear of Susan's passing. She was a longtime donor to AXIS Dance Company. As Founder & Director Emerita I had the opportunity to speak to Susan several times a year to thank her for her most recent donation. We talked about AXIS and disability stuff and plants and animals. She is greatly missed I know and her numerous accomplishments will be remembered.

Warmly, judy
