Alberta Smith Obituary

SMITH, ALBERTA E. Alberta E. Smith (nee Anderson), 70, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, with her husband at her side at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was born May 10, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. Alberta was the apple of her mother's eye, as is the case with the youngest child in most families. She met and married her husband, John, in Washington D.C. in 1972 and one year later moved to Illinois. After settling down, she became very active in the community, the Christian Church of Arlington Heights Girl Scout leader and the PTO at John Jay Elementary School. Alberta was educated in the Connecticut School system in her early years. Following, while in Illinois, she attended Harper College receiving her certification as a CNA. Receiving this certification allowed her to provide home health care service. She was also a champion at crocheting, entering dolls created from her imagination in the Illinois State Fair and winning many Blue Ribbons. Not satisfied with that level of competition, she entered and won at the Northeastern Exposition with a Grand Champion Plate. Alberta is survived by her husband, John Smith and children, Carl Sims of Houston, Texas, Dana Murray of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jack Smith, Chicago, Illinois and Phillip Smith, St.Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and siblings, Barbara Young, Dianne Bishop, Lorraine Moore and brother Charles Anderson. She also had many cousins and nephews. A memorial service will be held 10:00AM, Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Dixwell Avenue United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven Connecticut. Interment to follow in Springfield Mass. ARRANGEMENTS BY CREMATION SOCIETY OF ILLINOIS, FOR INFO 847-577-6505
