Alice Weber Stanley, in Waterbury, CT, entered into rest on Thursday, October 23, at the age of 97. Widow of the late William T. Stanley, Sr., a longtime compositor at the New Haven Register. A resident of Branford for 75 years, "Grammy" was born on September 7, 1928, the daughter of Emil Weber and Violet Handy Weber of New Haven. She married her beloved husband Bill in 1947, and they were an inseparable couple for almost 58 years. Survived by their children Alice (David) Mandel of Sudbury, Massachusetts, William (Julia) Stanley Jr. of Merritt Island Florida, and Merri Stanley-Puglisi of Wallingford Connecticut. Beloved Grammy to Michael (Shari) Mandel of Melville, NY, Stephen Puglisi of Lima, Ohio, Lt. Brittany Stanley, USAF, and William Tang of Merritt Island, Florida. Beloved Great-Grammy to Lincoln Mandel of Melville, NY. Predeceased by her beloved brother John (Jack) Weber, siblings Emil Weber Jr., Albert Weber, Dorothy Lemay and Betty Johnson. Survived by her brother George Weber of Vermont.
Grammy had the patience of a saint and the immobility and resilience of Mount Washington. She chopped firewood and mowed her own lawn with a push mower well into her 90s and lived independently and on her own terms.
She loved gardening, birds, reading, quilting, flowers, sewing and arts and crafts. Baker of the best apple pie and pie crust roll-ups ever. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Accentcare Hospice for their support and the staff of the Village at East Farms, Waterbury, CT for their care for the past two years.
