Annie Hill Obituary

HILL, ANNIE YOPP Annie Yopp Hill was born in North Haven on June 6, 1940, to the late Edward Yopp, Sr. and Thelma Brown Yopp. Annie graduated from North Haven High School and attended New Hampshire College. Annie was an employee of the State of CT for over 35 years. She began her career with the CT Bar Examining Committee and later worked with the State of CT Office of The Public Defender's Office as a Pretrial Investigator. Annie's work brought her into contact with people who did not have access to capital or political wealth, but she used her unique intellect and skills to ensure that every individual received legal representation when brought before the court. Annie loved children, people, music, exercise and most of all to talk. During her life she travelled to the Bahamas and numerous cities across America. Annie made friends quickly and was always willing to help when asked. She was loved by people from every community and was well known throughout the city and the state for her quick wit and unusual ability to have the last word in any conversation. Annie is survived by a brother, John Artis Yopp and a sister in law, Lana V. Yopp of New Haven and Matthews, North Carolina. She was predeceased by sisters Elizabeth "Betty" Yopp, Mary Ann Williams and a brother, Edward Yopp, Jr. Annie leaves many nephews, nieces and great nephews and great nieces. Annie had two lifelong, best friends, Mae Huckaby and Hilda Grace Kilpatrick who shared many interests with her. A celebration of Annie's life and legacy will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven, with Rev. Samuel Ross-Lee officiating. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Attorney John "Jack" Keyes, 420 E. Main Street, Branford, CT 06405 for the Annie Yopp Scholarship Fund that will help educate children from foster care or adoptions backgrounds. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. I will always remember her laugh, our outings for buffalo wings, her collection of stuffed animals I. Her back window, but most importantly, her big heart for people of all backgrounds and circumstances.

Artis and family, as you know words can not express the feelings that are within me at this point. Annie has been a friend for several years yet it felt as if we'd known one another as long as I have known you. Her wit, wisdom and excitement for life is what sustained me on may a day. I will miss her so much and just know that God has gotten His hands full now that she has arrived. My deepest sympathy and you are in my prayers...Peace and Blessings ..

Dear Artis and the Yopp Family,
Please accept my condolences regarding your loss of Dear Annie. She and I were members of the 4th graduating class at North Haven High School and have since enjoyed being with each other during our many Class of 1958 reunions including our 50th in 2008. We also had a shared retirement love of fishing. I know I've been blessed knowing Annie Yopp. She had more energy and pizazz than anyone I've ever known. I knew I was always welcome when I saw her. It was such great fun being with her! She will be missed very much. Sincerely, Dave Gould
