Barbara A. Guluzzy, age 78, of Derby entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Griffin Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Richard Guluzzy. Barbara was born in Derby on March 27, 1940, daughter of the late Joseph and Joanne (Kieras) Farley and was a lifelong Derby resident. She was a graduate of St. Mary School, class of 1953 and Derby High School, class of 1957. Barbara began her career in the Sponge Sales Department of the B.F. Goodrich Sponge Products Division in Shelton. She worked at the Evening Sentinel Newspaper and also worked in the kitchen at Irving School. In 1975, she volunteered at Griffin Hospital for a year. In 1976, she began her 40 year career at Griffin Hospital as a Unit Ward Secretary/Nurses Assistant for the CP1 (East Wing) and the Intensive Care Unit. She then transferred to the Medical Records Department as a discharge analyst until her retirement in 2005. After her retirement, she remained at Griffin Hospital as a per diem employee until September of 2016. While working at Griffin Hospital she received the honor and recognition of being the Employee of the Month. Barbara was an active communicant at St. Mary Church and Ladies Guild. She was a member of the St. Mary School Mothers Club and the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She loved going to the beach. As a child she and her family would take vacations to Cape Cod. She loved to dance and play BINGO. Loved to laugh and always had an infectious smile. Even though she lost her husband at the tender age of 48 and missed him terribly, she thanked God everyday for her wonderful life and how blessed she was. Above all else she loves God and her family. The family would like to thank Barbara's caregivers Sharon and Katrina for their loving care and compassion. Barbara is the beloved mother of Michael Guluzzy and his wife Donna, Joanne Szwez and her husband Tony, Robert Guluzzy and Barbara Guluzzy. She is the loving grandmother of Rebecca Guluzzy and her fiancee Michael Gagnon, Jason Guluzzy, Christina Zajac and her husband Tyler, Anthony Szwez, and Karleen Guluzzy and great grandmother of Olivia Gagnon, Amelia Gagnon and Nicole Zajac. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Monday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Her entombment will follow at Mt.
