Barbara Wood Obituary

Barbara A. Wood
Barbara Ann Piper Burr Wood, age 84, of Cheshire passed away on February 27, 2022. She had a smile for everyone. She was born on July 25, 1937 in Derby, CT to Amos G. Piper and Myrtle Derry Piper Geiger. She was the wife of the late James A. Burr and Frederick E. Wood, Jr. Sister of David Piper (Carol) and the late Alice Piper Wilson (Warren), she had many nieces
and nephews. Some of her favorite times were with her granddaughters, Jane and Zora. She is survived by her children, Richard Wood and Jennifer Wood (John) and stepchildren Lois Wood (Doug) and Scott Wood. Barbara was a graduate of Shelton High School (class of '55) and on the reunion committee for the last few years. She graduated from the hospital of St. Raphael School of Radiology and was a registered x-ray technician in CT and Florida. She was a graduated from Stone Academy as a medical assistant and then a diet counselor, and finally a realtor and appraiser for John Roy Realtors (that was her favorite). She was active in Girl Scouts for over 40 years in Shelton and North Haven. She was active in many civic organizations during her lifetime. She loved baking and decorating birthday and wedding cakes (over 60 of them!) and never charged as it was a gift of love. She was very active in the Shelton Methodist Church until she moved out of the Valley and her stepfather, the Reverend Charles Geiger, passed away. Her ashes will be buried with her late husband Frederick E. Wood, Jr. on Cape Cod.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday March 12, 2022 at 2 pm in the First United Methodist Church 188 Rocky Rest Rd. Shelton. The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd, Shelton has been entrusted with the cremation.

Rick & Jennifer, I met your mom thru Bobbie Marenna. When your mom was in Milford, sometimes with you, Jenn, she would stop into our x-ray office for a quick visit. We even worked together for a short time when your mom did a refresher course. I'm sorry I didn't know about your mom's passing until now, 20 months later. I kept in touch with her thru Bobbie; after she passed away, I often thought of Barbara and wondered about her. Now I know she is at peace.

Rick and Jennifer, my aunt just told me about your moms passing. I am so very sorry for your loss. We kept in touch every year since my Mom passed. I am sure she was one of the first in line to hug your mom when she got to Heaven. ChrisAnn

I'm sorry for your loss. I remember Mrs. Wood's great cooking and delicious meals. She made me feel at home and like part of the family.
