Benjamin Peter Barto Jr.
Benjamin Peter "Pete" Barto Jr., an 83 year old lifelong Ansonia resident, passed away Dec. 31. at Griffin Hospital. He was born April 30, 1941 in Derby, son of the late Benjamin and Hazel Villers Barto. Pete worked for The Ansonia Police Dept. until retirement. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his wife Karen (Ranno) Barto and nephew Douglas Barto. He leaves two cherished daughters Patricia "Trish" Barto of Ansonia and Kate Kochiss of Stratford, his brother John Barto in North Carolina, four grandchildren Alexa McMahon, Johnny Picheco III, and Nicholas and Matthew Kochiss and great-grandson Maximilian McMahon. Peter was an avid NY Yankee, NY Giant and UCONN fan. He was also a past officer and was given life membership to The Norwood A.C.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, card games, cribbage, shooting pool. Later in life he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Griffin Hospital Cancer Center in memory of his wife Karen.
