Celeste Facciotti Asis, 88, of Woodbridge died peacefully at home on December 13, 2022, surrounded by family. Celeste was the loving and devoted wife of the late Dr. Jose Asis.
Celeste was born December 8, 1934, in Asuncion, Paraguay. Soon after, her family moved to Formosa, Argentina to start a movie theater business. Celeste's early years were molded by a strong Catholic tradition and the magic of movies, forging her into a woman of discipline, intellect, and great grace and style.
It was her intellect that pushed her to study biochemistry in Cordoba, Argentina. It is here she found her lifelong friend, Nellie Asis, and she found her lifelong love, Nellie's brother, Jose.
The two married in 1962 and came to the US in 1963 with their first daughter in tow.
While Jose built his OBGYN practice, Celeste found her true calling as a mother to their three children. It is she to whom they credit their successes: inspiring a focused discipline and generous heart led by the principles of her Catholic faith.
Celeste welcomed everyone with open arms and loved people deeply. Commonly she would be introduced as an adopted sister, aunt, or grandmother. It was the title of Lita, (short for abuelita), that she was most proud of: official grandmother to nine grandchildren, unofficial grandmother to more than thirty. All remember Friday night at Litas, Hershey kisses submarines, and her famous milanesas.
Celeste is survived by her loving and devoted children and their families: Dr. Maria Asis-Gilbride and her husband Matthew, sons Austin, Alex, Andrew, Dr. Antonio Asis and his former spouse Kristin, children Nolan, Hannah, Lindsey and Garrett, Dr. Martin Asis and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Grey, sons Ethan and Romer. She is survived by her brothers and their families: Buby and children, Gigina, Macarena, Guadalupe and Ximena; Antonio and his wife Christina, children Raul and Juan; countless nieces, nephews and their beautiful families across two continents
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 17, at 11 am At Our Lady of Assumption Church, 81 Center Road Woodbridge CT. A Celebration of Life will be held on the same day from 12:30-3:30pm at Racebrook Country Club, 246 Derby Ave., Orange CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Catholic Charities, https://cc-md.org/ and Polycystic Kidney Research Foundation, https://pkdcure.org/ .
