DANIEL MURPHY Obituary

Daniel Michael Murphy, 75, of Durham, beloved husband of Noreen (Finnegan) Murphy, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home with family at his side. Dan was born in New Haven, son of the late Michael and Mary (Hayes) Murphy. Dan was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Navy as a submariner. He was assigned to the USS Triton, USS Becuna, USS Nautilus and the USS Skate. Prior to his retirement, Dan was employed as an electrical engineer for Southern New England Telephone and General DataCom. Dan received his engineering degree from New Haven University; he was also a 1959 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He was very active with many organizations in Durham. Dan was a charter member and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Daniel is survived by his children, Richard Murphy (Melissa Ackerman ) of East Hampton, Tara Klupa (Patrick Klupa) of Mendon, MA, Sean Murphy (Kimberly) of Vancleave, MS, two sisters, Mary Moran of Hamden, Ann Ahamed (Dr. Sultan Ahamed) of Mystic, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday April 3, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown followed by an 10 a.m. Funeral Liturgy in Notre Dame Church, Durham. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice. My condolences to the family and friends of Daniel. Another fellow Irish Submariner and Brother of the Phin. Daniel rode four (4) Boats. Two (2) Diesel and two (2) nuclear one of which is Nautilus a very distinguished man and a distinguished record in the Submarine Force and in life. I hope that Daniel will save me a seat at Fiddlers Green, he sounds like a man I'd love to meet. "Sailor rest your Oar".

There is no expiration date on the back of our dolphins and Daniel, who earned his 'fish' when he qualified on USS TRITON SSN-586 in 1963, will always be remembered as a Brother of the Phin and a great Patriot.
