David Leigh Obituary

David H. Leigh
September 27, 1934 - October 11, 2022
David H. Leigh, 88, of Wallingford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth A. Leigh for 65 years. David was born in Seymour, CT on September 27, 1934 to Milton H. and Maud C. Leigh. David was a graduate of Seymour High School and Bryant College (now Bryant University). He was a proud alumnus and lifetime supporter of the University and endowed numerous scholarships at the school for deserving Accounting students. David was a Certified Public Accountant and a partner at the firm of Bailey Moore Glazer Schafer & Proto in Woodbridge, CT for over sixty years. He worked as a consultant with the firm until the week of his passing. He was a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. David was an avid gardener and planted and tended some legendary vegetable gardens over the years at his home. He was also a superb woodworker whom his family could always rely on to build or fix or refurbish almost anything made of wood. A real passion of his were his personal collections of combination locks, hand painted china and Britain's lead toy soldiers, especially military marching bands. He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world and visiting new countries whenever possible. Besides his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by his son Arthur D. (Bonnie) Leigh of Alexandria, Virginia and his daughter Susan A. Leigh (Jeffrey Tomei) of Woodbridge. He was a loving and supportive grandfather to Marina, Matthew and Julia Tomei and a step-granddaughter, Kate Shannahan. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles M. Leigh of Derby, CT. Calling hours will be held at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 9-11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in David's name to two local organizations he supported, the Wallingford Family YMCA, 81 S. Elm Street Wallingford, CT 06492 or the Wallingford Public Library at 200 North Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.BaileyCares.com.

To Dave´s family:
Dave was my accountant and friend for well over fifty years. He guided me through every aspect of my life including my incorporation of two businesses as well as all of my personal accounting issues. He was always there when I needed him. When time came for my retirement Dave flawlessly closed my corporation down in the same professional manner he helped me incorporate it 40 years before. I will truly miss my friend and accountant and will always look up to him for his exceptional intelligence, kindness and guidance. In my eyes he was one of very few people in my life I could call a true hero.
