Deborah Ahlefeld Obituary

Deborah Ahlefeld
September 17, 2025
Branford, CT – Deborah (Deb) Ahlefeld, 77, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025. Deb was born in New Haven, on May 15, 1948, the daughter of her late beloved mother, Judith Stowe Ahlefeld and her father, the late Edwin H. Ahlefeld Jr. Deb is survived by sister, Polly Ward, of Yarmouth, ME; brother, Edwin (Ted) Ahlefeld, and his wife, Maureen, of Guilford, CT; sister, Sally Burke, and her husband, Rob, of Newburgh, ME; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Deb grew up in Woodbridge, briefly resided in Maine, and lived in Branford most of her life. She graduated from Amity High School, and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and also the University of Southern Maine, majoring in sociology and gerontology. Deb worked for the Connecticut State Police, American Greetings and others before settling in Branford. Additionally, she was involved in a variety of volunteer organizations.
Deb's greatest loves were her craftwork, tennis, skiing, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She adored her cats and was a voracious reader and antique enthusiast. Deb was a curious, compassionate and independent spirit, helping out anyone, friendly and strong. As a cancer survivor, she fought for others with cancer and to destigmatize mental illness. With her generous and gentle demeanor, Deb was a close friend to many.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Emily R. and the staff at BHcare for their kindness and support. In keeping with Deb's wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Deb, to Make-A-Wish, the ASPCA, or a charity of one's choice.
