Desmond Claxton Obituary
Desmond Claxton departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021. He was born in Church Ground Village, Nevis, West Indies and resettled in New Haven, CT. He worked for US Steel New Haven, New Haven Police Department, delivered newspapers for the New Haven Register, made furniture at Yale Manufacturing, and retired from Yale University Maintenance Department at the Hall of Graduate Studies. Desmond also coached Walter Pop Smith Little League Baseball Team Congress Hardware where he led his team to multiple championships.
Desmond Claxton was predeceased by his mother, Mildred Claxton; father, Levi Weeks; and brother, Carlton Claxton.
Desmond Claxton is survived by his loving wife: Margaret Claxton; siblings, Virginia "Gole" Hendrickson, Reginald Weeks, Rita Weeks, and Iris Blackman; children, Claudette Sandra Collins, Marva Lewis, Michael Claxton, Eric Claxton, Charlene Claxton-Diakite, Nikki Claxton, and Travis Claxton; grandchildren, Ebony Glover-Little, Shammica Glover-Jones, Trudy Lewis, Marquirsha Claxton, Tracy Lewis, Jocelyn Claxton, Roland Allick Jr., and Justice Diakite; great-grandchildren, Essence McAdoo, Malachi Jones, Mason Little, Cameron Jones, and Maverick Jones. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 9:00 AM at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe St, New Haven, CT 06511. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Due to COVID-19 variant surges, loved ones and friends may choose to view the funeral services safely and remotely via online livestream link that will be available on January 8, 2022. To the family of Desmond, I´m deeply sorry for your loss. Desmond was a special and kind soul. Your life was enriched knowing him. We had many conversations about life and family and how dedicated he was to his, and how proud he was. He always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. I remember when Yale was on strike we were all dancing on the street with Desmond leading us. He was so helping and caring. If you weren´t feeling well he always had a natural remedy for curing whatever you had. Anyone who knew him considered him one of the great gentleman of all time. He will live in our heart always. My father was the best father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, son, brother, cousin and friend. He loved his calypso music and was always ready to dance and have fun. He enjoyed his life and his family. He loved to laugh and was always happy and happy to see us. He was our strength and protector. His family was everything to him. He never wanted to leave us. He now has the best of both worlds, he has God and his family in heaven and us here on earth. He is always close by to encourage us. God broke the mold when he created Desmond Claxton. I thank God for such a wonderful father.

His mother was my beautiful auntie Marie.I hope the family find comfort in these difficult times.When next I am in Nevis ,I will go stand beside his mother's grave and say a prayer for both Desmond and her.
