Donald Flumerfelt Obituary

Flumerfelt, Donald
Donald Flumerfelt passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2019 in New Haven, CT. Don was born March 31, 1964 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. In 1966 he moved with his parents and sister to Needham, MA where they became US citizens. Don was a graduate of Needham High School then received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Bryant College, Smithfield, RI. He always had a love of anything with motors and growing up would spend his paper-route money and time buying and selling anything from bikes to boats in the "Want Ads" magazine. It only made sense that after college he went to work for 3M's Automotive Division. He was based out of Branford, CT and thrilled to live by the shore.
Don had an adventuresome spirit with the desire to help make the world a better place. He felt so privileged to be able to serve as a Business Advisor volunteer in the Peace Corps in Yerevan, Armenia. When he returned to the USA he worked for the New Haven Parking Authority as well as trying a number of various entrepreneurial pursuits. He had a keen mind and was always eager to learn, the courage to try and to think outside the box. Trinity Church in Branford has been a constant in his life where he's been a member and served over the years in the youth group and choir. He's made dear friends there who have become a second family.
Don is survived by his parents Leonard (Bud) and Viva (Scilley) Flumerfelt of Chelmsford, MA and his sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Paul Wieliczki of Taunton, MA as well as extended family in Ontario, Canada. His cousin, Julie (Lennox) Underwood has been a constant source of encouragement and support to him in recent years. He leaves many dear friends and will be missed.
Friends and relatives are kindly invited to a Celebration of Don's Life on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church On-the-Green, Branford. There will be collation and a time for fellowship in the church hall following the service. Don loved the color red so please feel free to wear some red. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice. For directions and online memorial see www.wsclancy.com

I knew Don when we were Peace Corps Volunteers in Armenia. I will never forget the shower he built for a fellow Volunteer, or his stories about trying to learn the language. One time I worked with him on a business communication project and we spent the afternoon making business English dialogues for Armenians. He made a lasting impression on me. I didn´t learn of his death until recently, but I wanted to share my condolences, just the same. He was a great guy who made a real difference to many.

Dear Family of Don Flumerfelt. So sorry to hear about Don's passing this week. I was the Small Business/Agribusiness Peace Corps Trainer when Don joined the Peace Corps in the Spring of 1994, as part of the second group of Volunteers in the Republic of Armenia. Don was a great trainee, truly believed in the Peace Corps and its mission to share technical expertise with the Armenians. He was a diligent and enthusiastic student of the Armenian Language. He was gung ho about the training, and for his purpose in Armenia. Don also personalized the third goal of the Peace Corps, and apparently kept up using the Armenian Language when he returned to Massachusetts. Although i had not seen Don in years, we communicated through social media. In spite of this loss to all of us, he will be remembered with fondness as part of the A2 family, and rest assured he holds an important pioneering spot in the history of Peace Corps in Armenia. Condolences to you all.
