Doreen D'Auria Obituary

Doreen D'Auria
Doreen Quigley D'Auria, 94, of Orange, CT and formerly of West Haven, CT, passed away early Sunday, January 26, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. Doreen was born in Harvard, Illinois to the late Hattie and John Quigley. Doreen met her husband Salvatore, in North Carolina where she worked for the summer and they were married on June 2, 1956, in Harvard, Illinois. After spending a year in Harvard, they moved to West Haven where they raised their family, later moving to Orange in 2015. Sal and Doreen were married for 68 years. Doreen is survived by her husband Salvatore, her children Gregg D'Auria (Judi), Elisa Santini (Julian) and Diane Doran (John). She was also blessed with seven grandchildren who adored their grandma: Danielle Borrelli (Timothy), Christopher D'Auria, Michael (Laura), Nicholas (Alicia) and Sarah Santini and Sean and Alyssa Doran; and one great-granddaughter Lillian D'Auria. Doreen worked as a hairdresser for many years and then later on worked for Connecticut Savings Bank. She was also an active long-standing member of the First Lutheran Church in West Haven. Doreen and Sal enjoyed traveling to such places as Europe, Alaska and Hawaii and spent winters in Florida. Doreen participated in chair exercise and cards at the Orange Senior Center.
The family would like to thank ElderCare Services and the aides that cared for and treated Doreen with compassion and to Yale Hospice Care for their help during this very difficult time.
A Celebration of Life for Doreen will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the First Lutheran Church, 52 George Street, West Haven, CT. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30. The service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Doreen's memory to Yale New Haven Health-Health at Home, Hospice, 753 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT 06437.

Our deepest sympathy to you and your family, Sal. Doreen was an amazing woman and a true foundation of the congregation at First Lutheran, and, as I understand it, Trinity Lutheran in Bradenton, Florida where my brother-in-law sings in the choir. Doreen is an inspiration for all of us on how to age well with wit and charm. I pray she is at peace in the arms of our Lord. I will always remember her as I wear the necklaces she made and enjoy the absolute skillful jewelry organizer she sewed. Not to mention that wonderful toffee candy she made for our church fairs!

Doreen was our 1st cousin and my Godmother. In 1956 I was 6 and the ring bearer in her and Sal's wedding & the twins Bob and Robyn
& older sister Marilynn were all in their wedding. Also in that year two sisters, both our Aunt and our Grandmother (who Doreen & Hattie lived with), died.
I remember walking up many steps to Sal & Doreens apartment. And I sorta remember Sal involved with digging the basement and building Aunt Hattie's new home. And when I moved to NYC in 70s I remember visiting them in West Haven several times.
