EDWARD CHIPMAN Obituary

CHIPMAN, EDWARD FRANCIS ROCKY HILL - Edward Francis Chipman, 58, passed away on January 17, 2016 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT after a long illness. He was surrounded by his family. Edward was born in New Haven, CT on January 20, 1957. He was the son of Kathryn (Horn) and Francis Chipman of Southbury, CT. He attended Oxford School and Holy Cross in Waterbury. Eddie grew up on Cedar Lane in Oxford. He played any and all sports, excelling at baseball. A proud member of the “Cedar Lane Gang,” he was also a Patriots and Yankees fan. Ed’s wit, charm and intelligence were truly endearing as his family was fond of listening to his many adventurous stories. Ed enjoyed a good debate, was up on current issues and recently had been getting a kick out of Donald Trump. In 1976, Ed joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. With his keen eyesight and marksmanship, Ed proudly carried the M-16 rifle and received a hand grenade badge by his platoon. He was employed by Kackimowski Construction and also The Lawyers, Inc. His sense of adventure took him to Idaho and Nevada where he worked as a bus driver around the Lake Tahoe/Squaw Valley ski areas. An avid outdoorsman, he spent many hours enjoying nature, swimming, hunting and hiking. Ed resided at Rocky Hill Veteran’s Home and maintained many friendships. He also had a self-appointed therapy dog named Jo-Jo who was welcomed and well-known at “The Rock.” His family will be forever grateful for the care, consideration and support he received. Special thanks to Dr. Ala, Dr. Romano, Carol Whelan and the “B” girls. Also to Dr. Jacobs, Yale-New Haven and West Haven VA hospitals, the 6th floor of John Dempsey, our guardian angel Robin, Jillian and the American Legion. Also to Uncle Richard for his companionship and patience. Eddie leaves his parents, Francis and Kathryn Chipman of Southbury, uncle Richard Horn of New Haven, brother Paul R. Chipman and sister Sally Chipman, both of Oxford. Also, sister Colleen and her husband Arte Johnson of Southbury, daughter Hope Chipman of VT and Thomas Edward Chipman of FL, as well as other extended family and dear friends. A date for services and burial will be announced in the spring. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with arrangements. Im saddened to hear of the passing of Ed. Its been many years since I saw Ed, but I recall he would sit with myself, Jamie Notter, and Corky and keep us entertained with his stories and smile, and he had a passion for dogs even at that time. My heartfelt condolences to the Chipman family.
