Elizabeth Kingsbury Obituary

KINGSBURY, ELIZABETH V. (BETTY) Betty Kingsbury, 84, died peacefully on May 18th surrounded by her family. She was the loving and devoted wife of her late husband Frederick J. (John) Kingsbury. Betty was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, the only child of William Poulson Vestey and Helen Coho Vestey and she enjoyed a happy childhood in a wonderful neighborhood in Bronxville, NY. She attended local schools and graduated from Southern Seminary junior college in Buena Vista, VA, with a major in home economics. As a child she spent summers at her maternal grandparents' family cottage in Sachem's Head in Guilford and there she grew to love the place she would eventually call her permanent home. In 1951 she married John and they built a home there that became the center of her life. Betty was a devoted wife and mother who loved nature, art, music, and getting her hands in the dirt of her beautiful gardens. She made sure her children learned the joy of simple pleasures; fishing, ping-pong (she was an ace player), rowing, wiffle ball, ice-skating, and badminton. She and John, married almost 60 years, loved spending time with family and friends and vacationing in Maine and Florida. She was loved for her down-to-earth nature, her sense of humor, and her kindness to all. She is survived by her adoring children, son John Kingsbury, daughter Libby Kingsbury, and daughter-in-law Kitty Kingsbury. She also leaves two beautiful granddaughters, Holly Kingsbury and Lydia Kingsbury, both of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Larry Kingsbury of Chatham, Massachusetts, a dear sister-in-law Kasha Kingsbury of Guilford, their children Jennifer Bogosian and Suzanne Kingsbury, and nephews Thomas Crocker and Stephen Fisher and niece Kim McVay. Her family gives special thanks to her devoted and loving caregivers, Frances, Alfhild, Carmen, Pat, and Chris and all of the staff at Peregrine's Landing in Clinton. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church, 122 Broad St, Guilford on Friday, May 24th at 11:30am. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or call an old friend for a good, long chat.
