ETHAN ALLEN Obituary

ALLEN, ETHAN Ethan Allen, of Venice, FL and formerly Milford, CT, died on Sunday December 7, 2014 at Village on the Isle in Venice; FL. Ethan was 95. He was born on November 5, 1919 in East Bridgewater, MA and lived in Braintree and Quincy, MA. On June 8, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army and participated in the battle of Normandy, and the campaigns of Northern France and Central Europe. Ethan was awarded the European African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Tech Sargent. Ethan married Betty Boyle in 1948, graduated from Northeastern University in 1949, moved to Devon, CT and had two children, Betty Ann of Damariscotta, ME and Mark of Wyomissing, PA. Ethan spent his entire professional career with Raybestos, Inc later called R/M International, where he managed many international joint venture operations, including one in Sapporo, Japan where he and Betty developed life-long friendships and a love of the Japanese culture. Ethan was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Devon. He served on the vestry for many years as junior and senior warden. Ethan will be remembered for his enthusiastic support of the Raybestos Brakettes softball team and hosted many international women’s softball teams at his home. He was also a loyal supporter of the Milford Garden Club, planted thousands of bulbs on Milford Green, and cared for Liberty Rock park in Devon. His quick wit and easygoing personality made all that knew him comfortable and comfortable in his presence. In addition to his children, survivors include Mark’s wife Sally and his two grandchildren Samantha and Brian of New York City, and many nieces and nephews who provided him with much love and attention during his final years. Ethan was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years Betty, his sisters Ruth and Bea and his brothers Denny and Albert. Also preceding Ethan in death was his grandson Ned Wilson. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Devon on Friday January 16 at 10:00. No flowers, please. Donations may be made to a Hospice of your choice.
