Gerald Cohen Obituary
Gerald Howard Cohen, 83, of Hamden, died on October 1, 2024. Gerry was born in New Haven on January 1,1941 to Ruth and Henry Cohen. Besides his loving wife, Rose Forster Cohen, Gerry leaves behind his beloved daughters, Leslie Cohen (Louis Cox) and Meredith Cohen (James Davins), his adoring sister and sister-in-law, Carole Cohen and Susie Freed and his precious grandchildren, Eli Marenholz, Sasha Cohen Cox and Emma Cohen Cox, as well as his nieces and nephews. He loved his many friends with whom he shared a lifetime of experiences.
Gerry pursued his dream of becoming a lawyer, inspired by his favorite book "To Kill a Mockingbird", first attending UCONN and then graduating from Quinnipiac College and finally Suffolk Law School. He practiced in New Haven, after time as a clerk of the court and public defender. He also spent time as Town Attorney in Hamden.
Gerry and Rose enjoyed traveling, scuba diving and running and Gerry ran in three New York marathons. He developed a love of cooking, and his specialty was his desserts, which he enjoyed sharing both the practical side with his granddaughters and the product with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at B'nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergreen Avenue, New Haven, Sunday, at 12:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation or a charity of your choice. A period of mourning will be observed at the family home in Hamden after the service until 7 pm. Funeral arrangements are in care of Robert E.
