James Apuzzo Sr., 85 of Wooster Place, New Haven, passed away May 11, 2025, at St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born July 6, 1939, in New Haven, to Vincenzio and Connie Apuzzo. James is survived by his son, Primo Apuzzo (Lucy) of San Antonio, Texas; and two grandchildren, Lorraine Burdick (Matthew) and Ashley Smith (Dan). He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald Apuzzo (Barbara) of Florida and Lucy Gogliettino of New Haven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anita (Ciccolallo) Apuzzo, and a son, James Apuzzo Jr. (2024).
James owned and operated (1981-1985) a successful residential and commercial painting business, J & S Painting. During that time, one of his biggest contracts was with the interior painting of the New Haven Coliseum. He loved to cook Italian food for everyone who came to his home. He also had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson. Apart from his love for the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, his greatest joy was his granddaughters.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11 AM in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Bernadette Church, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven. Burial will be private and under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven.
