James Goggins Obituary

James Goggins
March 17, 1939 - November 29, 2024
James J. Goggins of Wallingford, age 85, passed peacefully on November 29th, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was born in New Haven on Saint Patrick's Day 1939, to James and Gladys (Wright) Goggins and was raised in Hamden. As a young adult, he proudly served as an Army Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, he worked in management at the Southern New England Telephone Company for 35 years, where he was fortunate to meet many of his closest friends. In 1985, he joined Lightnet Communications in Atlanta, Georgia and then joined Williams Telecommunications in 1990 in Dallas, Texas. He returned to Connecticut in 1992 to retire after a career that he loved so much.
Jimmy was a passionate New York Yankees, Giants, and Rangers fan, an avid reader and film enthusiast, and loved to play golf with his friends and family members, but his greatest joy came from his role as a dedicated father and grandfather who never missed his grandchildren's game, play, or recital.
Jimmy is survived by his loving daughters, Kathleen Murray (Jeffrey) and Patricia DeMorro (Richard), his grandchildren Patrick, Christian, Holly, Boomer, and Jack, and his adoring sister Mary Sokol (Chet). He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, and brother John.
Jimmy Goggins will be laid to rest with his mother, father, and brother in a private ceremony with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jimmy's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the "Closer to Free" Fund for Smilow Cancer Hospital. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford is in care of arrangements. Please see his online memorial at www.wsclancy.com.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at YNHH that took great care of our father.

For many years Jimmy was my dad´s best friend. I think that the word I remember my dad most using to describe Jimmy was "brilliant ". He moved around for the phone company because they needed him, not vice versa. To me and my brothers he was a legend. He was Jimmy, Jigsy or just Goggins. No matter, we knew he was a guy you wanted on your team. He fixed our televisions using an oscilloscope! One time we had two broken TVs and he fixed one so it had sound and the other so that it had picture and we stacked them one on top of the other! He rode motorcycles and my dad and Jimmy traded one bike back and forth a couple of times, helmet and glasses included. He had a lime green T-bird that my dad helped him sell for $75! He had a tattoo before being inked up became vogue. My brothers and I were his fans and he was a fan of ours. He was a classic.

Jimmy loved his children and grandchildren and the words in the obituary aptly describe his pride for them and how he spoke to others about them.

Condolences to his entire family.

RIP Jimmy!
