James Hengoed Obituary

James Hengoed
James R. Hengoed, 94, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce Reigle Hengoed. James was born in Connellsville, PA on December 25, 1926 and was the son of the late Glendore Hengoed and Lelia Gales Hengoed Pratt. He was a professor at Harvard University, Boston University and later for Jersey City State College. He was a true man of God; throughout his life he pastored several churches and was continuously involved in the ministry of Jesus Christ. James had been the chairperson of TRACS, which works to keep Christian Colleges/Universities accredited. He enjoyed gardening and raising birds, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved unconditionally. Father of Esther (John) Conquest. Grandfather of Jac (Laurie) Conquest, Brian Scott (Teena) Conquest Conquest and Kate (Tim) Tredwell. Great-grandfather of Morgan, Madison, Emma, Abigail, Isabel, Emily, and Paige. Predeceased by his stepfather Elwood Pratt, sister Loretta and brother Glen Hengoed.
The visiting hours will be on Wednesday, June 9th at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A service will be conducted in the funeral home at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
