James Russo Obituary

RUSSO, JAMES D. James D. Russo, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully with his family by his side on September 1, 2011, after a heroic battle with cancer. Jim was the "first baby born" in New Haven, CT on January 1, l944, to the late Dominic and Vincenza Russo. He graduated with a BA from American International College where he was President of the TKE fraternity and he received his MA from Fairfield University. He taught in the New Haven school system and was co-owner of Russo Roofing in Hamden, CT, before moving to Cape Cod in l976 where he and his wife, Ruth, opened and operated Father Christmas for over 25 years. He was the general contractor for Casey Homes in Harwich until he established his own company, Cape Cod Home Builders, which he operated until the time of his passing. Although Jim was a very successful businessman, he felt his greatest accomplishment was the life he built at home. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ruth, his three daughters Kate (Egan) and her husband, Jim, of Plymouth, Molly (Garcia) and her husband, Mark, of Plymouth, and Sally (Russo) of East Dennis. He also leaves behind his "best little friends," his three grandchildren, Abby, Caroline, and Chloe of Plymouth. Jim is also survived by his two brothers, Fred Russo of Branford, CT and Robert Russo of Hamden, CT. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Massaro of Hamden, CT. Jim will be deeply missed by his extended family, and all of those who were blessed to know and love him. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, Route 134, South Dennis, MA from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

I visited "Father Christmas" in 1982, and purchased a number of ornaments from Mr Russo. Those ornaments are among my favorites in my family's 800+. He was a lovely gentleman. My husband and I took our girls to Cape Cod in 2003 and we visited the new "Father Christmas" store run by his daughter. We are very sorry to hear of Mr. Russo's passing and I will always fondly remember him. God Bless.

Dear Ruth,
I was very sad to hear that you have lost your loving husband and wonderful father of your children. I have so many happy memories of the Wallingford/Meriden/N.Haven bus rides to and from SHA and parties and fun. I looked at your photos and was so pleased that with Jim you built such a great family. I will pray for you as you deal with the realities of your loss. God bless Jim and give him peace and rest in a place with God where there is no illness and suffering. Consolation is wished sincerely for you and yours...Sr. Nancy Strillacci

Dearest Ruth, Katie, Molly, and Sally,
How do we ever express our sadness to such a warm, loving family about the passing of truly one of the most sincere and kind men.
Jim had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life that was contagious. His corny jokes, great wit and pranks will sustain us for years to come.
On the other side of the coin he was thoughtful and insightful and had such a warm side to those who may have been facing challenges.
Jim, you did some grand and adventurous things in your life however, that you will be remembered for is the love and untouched devotion to your family...all of them..
For every tear that falls there is a prayer in our hearts for you all...God Bless You.. I will miss my friend..
