On Monday, December 12th, despite her tough Irish spirit and the thorough efforts of Yale Smilow Cancer Center, Janet Ann Carlin, 70, departed this plane. Such a loss. Born in Bridgeport and raised in Lordship, a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School, St. Joseph HS, and Northeastern University Deaconess School of Nursing, Janet was employed in various nursing positions – from SICU at the VA to Connecticut Hospice - later choosing to apply her artist's soul with business partner Jayne Crowley at their eponymous J.C. Glassworks in Branford for many years. Janet returned to nursing in Yale's Psychiatric ED for several years until retirement in 2020. Janet was a kind soul with a quick wit, a lover of cats, a caring nurse, a loyal book club member, a connoisseur of Cheetos, an avowed hater of bell peppers, the champion of any mountain of fried seafood, an adventurous cook, a lover of cozy snow days, a graceful swimmer, an impressive funky-chicken dancer, an aficionado of funny obituaries, and a true friend who was always willing to share in a good time. Many will miss her in more ways than words can convey. Janet is survived by a brother, Thomas Carlin (Lori) of PA, a sister, Tamara Carlin (Bruce Rasquinha) of CO, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Jane Tierney Carlin, and sister-in-law, Judith Ann Carlin. Her family thanks Annie, Tricia, Jayne, Ruby, and others for enabling Janet to pass as she wished. A Roman Catholic funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Peace Church, Lordship, on January 19, 2023, at 10:30 followed by interment of ashes at St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
