Janet Susanne Helbig Ostrom, age 95, was lovingly adored by family and friends. She was born on September 18, 1922 in New Haven, CT. On October 26, 2017 in Taunton, MA, Janet moved onto a new dimension of her life. She was preceded by the love of her life, her husband Richard Carl Ostrom (born in Waterbury, CT). She passed shortly following a fall at her daughter's home in Carver, MA. Janet was the daughter of the late Carl August Helbig (born in New Haven, CT) and Lillian Myrtle Holtz Helbig (born in Brooklyn, NY). She was preceded by her sisters, Martha Elizabeth Helbig Endriss and Lois Janet Helbig, and her great-granddaughter, Tatum Lynn Gray. Janet lived at 66 Piper Road, Hamden, CT from 1952 to 2011. She moved to Massachusetts in 2011 and resided in both Carver and Lakeville. At the time of her passing, Janet was residing with her daughter's family in Carver, MA. The interment of her remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, CT.
Janet graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven, CT in 1939. Throughout her life she worked for: The United Illuminating Company (Secretary); Westinghouse (Secretary); the Frist Church of Christ Scientists New Haven (Clerk); the Christian Science Committee on Publication, Connecticut (Secretary); Richard C. Ostrom, CPA in Seymour, CT (Secretary); Budwitz and Meyerjack CPA Firm (secretary) and Paul's Hamburg Stand, Milford, CT (Bookkeeper).
Janet was a member of The First Church of Christ Scientists, New Haven, CT, and Boston, MA. She was also a member of The Palestine Chapter No. 67 Order of Eastern Star, New Haven, CT.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Gray and son-in-law David Gray of Tulsa, OK and Sheryl "Sherrie" Caron and son-in-law Ronald Caron of Carver, MA. Her grandchildren: Alexander Gray and Kimberly of Everett, WA; Kendall Gray East and Joe of Madison, AL; Glen Caron and Lindsay of Pembroke, MA; Kristin Caron and partner Roland Horton of Carver, MA and Leland Gray and Rebecca of Tulsa, OK. Her six great-grandchildren: Dylan Worswick Caron and Tyler Joseph Caron, Layden David Gray, Danni Lynn Caron, Aubree Marion Gray and Emery Mae East. Her nephews: Theodore (Ted) Endriss of CT, Joseph Endriss of Arizona, John Metzbower of North Carolina and Brian Metzbower of Maryland.
