Jean Murray Obituary

Jean Ann Murray
Jean Ann Murray (Mellor), 93, of Hamden passed away peacefully, at home, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Murray, whom she met while he was serving in World War II, and stationed in England. Jean was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England on March 20, 1929 and was the daughter of the late John and Emily Mellor. Jean worked as the animal control officer for the Town of Hamden for twenty-seven years until her retirement in 2006. Jean loved all animals and had a special talent for interacting with animals and gaining their trust. Prior to that, she was a crossing guard for the Town of Hamden for eighteen years, keeping countless students safe and bringing a smile to their faces daily. Jean was also an auxiliary state trooper for the CT State Police, serving at Troop I in Bethany in the 1970s. Jean loved spending time with friends, especially the members of her English club, many whom were British war brides like her. Jean is survived by two sons, James, with whom she resided, in Hamden, and Joseph (Mary) of Wallingford, CT. She is the loving grandmother of Joseph and Jonathan Murray. Jean is also survived by two brothers and a sister, Michael, Paul, and Susan, as well as several nieces and nephews, both in the U.S. and in England. Jean was predeceased by a son, Thomas F. Murray, and two brothers, John and Denis Mellor. She also leaves behind her beloved pet dog Bear. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park in Hamden, CT. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Hamden Animal Shelter Gift Fund c/o Police Chief Timothy Wydra, Hamden Police Department, 2900 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518. Jean was the ACO in Hamden when we opened up our dog training facility. Jean and Officer Goodiejohn would do my annual inspections. Jean loved helping animals. She was no nonsense and got the job done, she was and always be a bright star in Hamden.

My prayers are with her son and family.

SHE WAS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL, LOVING WOMAN. SHE WORKED OUT OF THE VET HOPITAL, WHERE WE GOT TO MEET HER. SHE EVEN ARRESTED OUR DOG KING WHEN HE BROKE FREE AND ROAMED THE NEIGHBORHOOD. SHE KNEW HIM AND CALLED US. SHE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS. GOD BLESS HER AND HER FAMLY. MAY HER MEMORIES HELP YOU THROUGH THIS TIME.

Jean Murray was a warm, kind, and loving woman. I told her I wanted "a" kitten. She told me she had one that was a good match. When I showed up to get the one, there was also a beautiful, proud, Persian blue who was injured. I ended up taking them both. I cannot speak enough on what a wonderful woman Jean was. I am honored to have have known her and worked her. My deepest sympathies to her family.

My deepest sympathy to Jeans Family. She was such a devoted and wonderful woman. She visited our home twice during her employment as Animal Control Officer. First to remove a snapping turtle from our pool. For such a tiny lady she sure was strong.
Then we had found a beautiful coin hound at the end of our street. Jean was amazing and found a perfect home for this beautiful animal!
May you RIP dear friend!
