John DIRZIUS Obituary

DIRZIUS, JOHN F. John F. Dirzius, age 88, of Milford, Connecticut, died Saturday April 9, 2011 at The Suffield House nursing home in Suffield, Connecticut. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on August 10, 1922, the son of late Anthony Dirzius and Catherine (Brazauskas) Dirzius. He grew up in Seymour, Connecticut with his Aunt and Uncle, Rose and Leonard Bugaila. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 for World War II and received the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. For over 40 years he worked as a Machinist at Farrel Corporation in Shelton. During that time he met Anna (Gert) Diviney. The couple lived together for forty years and spent many hours gathering shellfish along the shores of Long Island Sound. John loved to spend his time golfing and walking the farmlands of southern Connecticut looking for the perfect fishing hole or fruit tree. He had a deep appreciation of the natural world from flowers to birds. He leaves behind his beloved older sister Ellen Pastick of Windsor Locks, CT and Niland, California. His brother Frank Dirzius predeceased John. His younger brother Peter Michael Dirzius resides in Oregon. John has six living nephews, a niece and a plethora of great nephews and nieces who all remember him fondly as Uncle John. Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, Seymour, at the convenience of the family. The Miller-Ward Funeral Home of Seymour is compassionately caring for the family.
