John Hines Obituary

Hines, John R.
John R. Hines, 74, of Branford passed away peacefully at home on October 23 after a nine year battle with cancer. John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Anne Dougan Hines. He will be missed dearly by his children Colleen Hines, Branford, Kerri (John "Jack") Keniry, Branford and Anne (Daniel) LaTerra, Northford and his first grandchild Cecilia Anne LaTerra. John was predeceased by his parents Charles and Anna Hall Hines and siblings Patricia Choplick, Margaret "Peggy" Mathews and Charles "Chuck" Hines. He is survived by his brother Thomas (Yvonne) Hines of Meriden, nieces, nephews and cousins. Prior to his retirement John worked for the UI Co. He was a proud Army Vietnam Veteran. John was a member of the Irish American Community Center and the Gaelic Football & Hurling Club. He served on the RTM, Branford and was the Grand Marshal of the Branford Veteran's Day Parade. He enjoyed doing crosswords, going to hockey games and you could always spot him by his signature hat at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Haven.
His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80) East Haven Monday at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church (Branford) at 11:00 followed by military honors. Interment will be private. Friends may call SUNDAY from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to: Charlie's Closet, 310 State St, #200, Guilford, CT 06437. Sign John's guest book online at
