John Nimon Obituary
Rabbi John R. Nimon, 72, of Lynchburg, Virginia died at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Rabbi Nimon, the son of the late Joseph and Esther Nimon, leaves behind his wife Lisa Barker Rosenfield; his sister Wendy Weber of Toronto, Canada; his mother-in-law Naomi Barnett; his four children Yael(Douglas) Katzman, Aliza(Ted) Nannicelli, Sam Nimon, and Rina Nimon(Rich Cummings); and his two stepdaughters Julia Rosenfield (Thomas DePalma) and Emily Rosenfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren Shira and Noah Katzman, Leo, Vin and Asher Nannicelli, Sophia and Anna Nimon, and Paul DePalma. He was predeceased by his first wife Hyla Barnett Nimon.
Rabbi Nimon was born in Toronto, Canada and graduated from York University and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, OH. He served as Rabbi in several Connecticut congregations, in Mandeville, LA, and for the last 7 years at Agudath Sholom Congregation in Lynchburg, VA, where he was involved in many interfaith and community service organizations.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 3rd at 1PM at the B'Nai Abraham Cemetery at 120 Corrigan Avenue, Meriden, CT. Shiva will follow the service at the YMCA at 110 West Main Street in Meriden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rabbi John R. Nimon Scholarship Fund, Agudath Sholom Congregation, 2055 Langhorne Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24501. I have been a member of Agudath Sholom Congregation for 65 years and have attended just about every service Rabbi John conducted. Our congregation loved Rabbi John and appreciated him to as great extent as is possible. Our Congregation is now in deep mourning and shock at his sudden passing as must be his family and we in Lynchburg share our grief with his family. In his relatively short time in Lynchburg--eight years, he became respected and loved by many, many folks in the general Lynchburg population for his many activities and interest in improving various of life problems for people in need. My final thought addressed to his family is to remember Rabbi John for all his activities to improve life for all peoples, which is God's desire.
