Joseph Derrico

DERRICO, JOSEPH Joseph Derrico, 90, of Branford, formerly of North Haven, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. Joseph, son of the late Angelina and Peter Derrico was born in New Haven, CT on November 22, 1923. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1940. Joseph proudly served in the army in WWII as a Sergeant in the Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, under General George Patton and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He received Croix de Guerre Medal from the French government. He worked until retirement as a pipe coverer and insulator for Local 33. Joe was a member of the Wing Ding Golf Club and the Alpha Club in New Haven. Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ergira, nee DeMartino and six children; Ergira Conforto and her husband Kenneth, Joan Derrico, Barbara Derrico and her partner Marie Gibson, Robert Derrico, and his wife Lisa, Tricia Wilber and her husband Rob, and David Derrico and his wife Katy. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Ali Conforto, Joseph and Danielle Derrico, Larisa and Sasha Wilber and two sisters, Angelina (Sis) Collins and Rose Calandrella. His family thanks the Branford Hills Healthcare Center, Dr. David Hesse, and Dr. Andrea Radebold whose loving and professional care and support will always be greatly remembered.
