June Tryon Obituary

June Tryon
June Ann Tryon passed away at home on Thursday, August 21st at the age of 96, surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was born on June 29th, 1929 in New Haven, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Foley) Steele.
June leaves behind her daughter, Beverly Tryon of Portland, CT and Boston, and son James C. Tryon of Hamden; and beloved nieces Maureen Quinn of Branford, and Susan Quinn and husband Michael Kiefer of North Branford; and grandnephew James P. Quinn of New Haven. She was predeceased by her parents, former husband James A. Tryon, sister Patricia M. Quinn and nephew James J. Quinn.
June grew up in the Westville area of New Haven and raised her family in Hamden. She later lived in North Haven and in 2012, she moved to Portland to live with her family.
A graduate from St. Mary's High School in New Haven, June had over 25 years of unwavering service to the Southern New England Telephone Company. She later worked at Catholic Charities Family Services in New Haven and also volunteered her time tutoring English as a Second Language.
She had a deep and abiding faith and was a member of Saint Mary Church in Portland and enjoyed the Catholic television station ORTV in her later years. She was also a member of the Lay Carmelite Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
June had continuous dedication and love that she showed to her family and friends. She enjoyed playing the keyboard and also the hobby of raising tropical fish.
Special thanks and deep gratitude to Middlesex Hospice and to the unfailing support and care of home helpers Janet Pomaa and Mary-Katherine Hague.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 29th at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Portland. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland on Friday, August 29th from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in June's memory to Holy Apostles College and Seminary, 33 Prospect Hill Rd., Cromwell, CT 06416.
