LAUREL BLAUVELT Obituary

BLAUVELT, LAUREL Laurel Blauvelt, age 69, of East Haven, CT, died peacefully, surrounded by family on July 9th, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Laurel was born in New Haven, to Earl and Muriel Faust. After graduating from Wilbur Cross High School, she married Roger Blauvelt, who was serving in the Air Force. With their two children, they lived in bases and sites around the U.S. and the world, with stints in the Philippines, Germany, California, Texas, and Maryland. Their last assignment returned them to Connecticut, to be near family and resume their educations. Laurel obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Nursing from Southern Connecticut State University, and had a vibrant career as a psychiatric nurse and manager for 24 years, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael’s, Johns Hopkins, and Bristol Hospital, before retiring in 2011. Nursing was a perfect match for her deep compassion and caring. Laurel was a doting grandmother and constant support to her friends and extended family. She and Roger enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Ireland, Italy, and Costa Rica. Roger passed away in 2011, after they’d been married 45 years. After her retirement, Laurel continued to teach clinical nursing as an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University and Southern Connecticut State University. She very much enjoyed researching her Irish ancestry. She was a member of the Hamden Elks and the Connecticut Irish-American Historical Society. Laurel is survived by her children, Tracy and her husband Patrick Gabridge, of Medford, MA; Gary Blauvelt and his fiancée Stacy Mrozinski Hock, of Branford, CT; two sisters, Patricia Taddei of Branford, CT and Earlene Farrell of Hamden, CT; three grandchildren—Kira, Noah, and Joseph; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her funeral will be Wednesday, July 13th at 11:00 am in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden. Calling hours will be open starting at 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 . The burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405 or to a charity of one’s choice. www.siskbrothers.com
