Luigi Valente, 78, of Ansonia, beloved husband of Nettina DiSorbo Valente, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Born on December 9, 1938 in Piedimonte Matese, province of Caserta, Italy, he was the son of the late Alessandro and Antonietta (Simione) Valente. Luigi immigrated to the United States with his wife and young daughters in 1971, and was a Derby resident until moving to Ansonia in 2001. He had a strong passion for soccer and would often be found cheering for his favorite team Napoli. He enjoyed making wine, tending to his garden, taking care of his fig trees, and playing his lottery tickets. Known to his family and friends as "Gigi" or "Gigino", he was a natural storyteller who could grab a hold of anyone's attention and immediately have them captivated. The unconditional love and family values he instilled will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Luigi proudly worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for many years until his retirement in 2006. In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years; Nettina, he is survived by three loving daughters, Antonietta Totilo and her husband Richard, Sandra Valente and her husband Kevin Sullivan, and Angela Ardito and her husband Robert. He is also survived by his siblings; Filomena, Giovanni, Rosa, and Guisippina, all residing in Italy. He is predeceased by his sister, Michelina Valente. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Daniel, Anthony and Alexander Totilo, Philip, Jonathan and Jillian Sullivan and Zachary, Lucas and Nicholas Ardito, who affectionately called him "Nonno". He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Monday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church. His entombment will follow at Mt.
