Marcia was a mentor of mine. Her spirit moved me forward. I have thought of her over the years with a smile on my lips. I was blessed to be able to call her friend. May she rest in peace eternally.

To the family of Mrs Kleinman,
I am so sad that I didn't know about the passing of this most wonderful, passionate, creative, dedicated and gifted teacher and person. I had moved back to Darien from abroad for my senior year in 1984, and I had to take both her American and World Literature classes to catch up on credits. It was the best semester of my entire schooling! Marcia was the most energetic and inspiring teacher. I last spoke to her soon after my first son was born. She was so happy for me and we talked about hopes and dreams we had as mothers and she so easily went from a high school mentor to a friend and mentor as a parent. I lost touch after my second son was born and we moved to New Hampshire in 2005. Later, in my youngest's senior year, he came home all excited to be reading Crime and Punishment. I laughed aloud as I remembered when Marcia taught that book my senior year and I hated it! I was so stubborn and we got into friendly arguments about the fact that I thought the book lacked a redeeming character (truth is I never finished it) and I tried to write a final paper on the subject. Last day of classes I handed it in and went home. The next morning my mom woke me up to tell me that my English teacher was at the front door!!! I was speechless as she marched in my house, greeted my dogs, sat down at the table, took out my paper, told me it's garbage and beneath me and with those big blue eyes and bright smile told me I had 48 hours to do it right. I'll NEVER forget that, and I'll never forget her! She was awesome! So when my son was accepted to Dartmouth College to study literature and writing, I thought it was time to check in with her again and instead I was beyond shocked to see her obituary. I'm so sorry I didn't know sooner and I only hope her children, whom she always spoke so lovingly about in class, may read this someday and know how grateful I am to have known her. I will never forget her and I'm deeply sorry for your loss... I see she had many grandchildren and I'm sure her spirit lives in you and all of them. May God bless you all.

Marcia was my teaching partner at the Dartmouth Middle School in the 1970's. We have continued to stay connected through the years and the miles. When I retired as Superintendent of Schools, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, she surprised me by attending the event. We spoke just days before her passing. She was the best teacher that I ever met. I will miss her.

Marcia was my World Lit. teacher 26 years ago - from day one of her class, she engaged me and excited learning in a way I had never experienced. She inspired me to write and to believe in my ideas. I remained in touch with her all this time. I am so grateful that our lives came together when they did. I will never forget the twinkle in her eye or her warm laugh. She was my favorite teacher - and then a friend. She will be missed.

Marcia was by far the most engaging, encouraging, inspiring and talented teacher I have ever known. She helped me believe in my abilities and she helped me believe in myself. She truly lived the ideal as a model for all educators. I have yet to see, and I do not believe that I will ever see anyone with her level of passion and zeal. I am so very grateful to have had her touch my life.

In memory of Marcia and her love of writing, I send those thoughts from the Prophet. On Death: And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
On Friendship: And in the sweetness of Friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

Marcia had a way about her. She walked as softly as she talked. She taught perspective to young people in order to make them better people. She will be missed by all who knew her. Heaven is blessed.

Dearest Maria and family
I know your hearts are broken and you will miss your sweet precious sister. Everyone at Martha Lee Realty (Ocean Isle Beach and Holden Beach offices)wanted to send a trememdous wreath of white roses, but John at Shure Funeral Home said the family requested no flowers. We are all making donation to Susan G. Komen Foundation and also the Brunswick Community College Scholarship Foundation. Knowing how important education was to Marcia, we thought the scholarship fund was the right way to go, and is made in memory of Marcia. Love to you and Marcia's family. Mrs. Kleinman was my favorite teacher ever. She remained my friend after high school and we kept in touch until about a year ago. She was far more than a teacher-she was someone I confided in and trusted. I truly loved her and am so sad she is gone. My sincere condolences.

Mrs. Kleinman was my English teacher at Darien High School in 2003. She was an absolute force of nature, unique, passionate, and inspiring. She truly cared about her students and wanted us to pursue our dreams with full vigor. Her theatrical nature was enchanting and she truly inspired me. I will not be able to attend the services, but please know that all of her students will truly miss her, but her memory lives on with all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
