Mary Cocce Obituary

Mary A. Cocce, 91, of Ansonia, beloved wife of the late Guy Cocce, passed away on September 9, 2023 with her loving family at her side. Mary was born on May 16, 1932, youngest daughter of the late Castrenze and Antoinette Cultrara Barbera.
Mary was a graduate of Ansonia High School and shortly thereafter married her love. As Guy and Mary became parents, they raised their boys alongside their siblings, creating a supportive village of cousins, family, neighbors and friends, resulting in memories that have been shared with pride and humor. She was dedicated to caring for her family and providing many, many hearty Italian meals.
While Guy unexpectedly left Mary's side in 1982, and she focused her efforts on caring for her grandchildren. Mary was a proud grandmother that enjoyed watching sporting events and dance recitals and spending time with the next generation. Mary taught her grands how to properly waltz, make gnocchi from scratch, gracefully accept what we cannot change and the value and power of silence. Eventually, Mary became "Nonna" and assisted with raising her great-grandchildren, helping them take their first steps and teaching lessons such as not to touch the stove.
To cherish her memory, Mary leaves her son, Glenn (Anna Marie) of Oxford, as well as five grandchildren: Alyssa, Joshua, Heather, Aaron, Christopher and their spouses. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Madison, Mason, Harper, Hudson, Ella, Amelia, Guy, Nicolas, and Perry; and a multitude of nieces and nephews, including Judith Massey, with whom she shared a special and close relationship.
Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Andrew, Nicolina, Anthony, and Nicholas; husband, Guy; and recently, her youngest son, Mark.
A memorial service for Mary and Mark will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Chapel at Mount St. Peter's Cemetery, located at 219 New Haven Ave., Derby, CT 06418.

If u like great cooking, company, and conversation, u would have liked aunt Mary. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners will never be the same. I will miss our discussions of scripture and its future applications, along with personal things. Looking forward to being reunited with aunt Mary in the better place soon to come for even much better times than we had here.
