Nicholas DiMauro Obituary

DIMAURO, NICHOLAS MICHAEL Nicholas Michael DiMauro, age 73, of Shelton, entered into rest on January 12, 2011 at his home, with beloved family members present. Nicholas was born in Melilli, Sicily to Sebastian "Mike" and Concetta "Connie" Fazzino DiMauro on November 11, 1937. Nicholas grew up, lived and worked in the Naugatuck Valley area throughout his life. Nicholas attended Lafayette grammar school in Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 1956, where he played varsity baseball and football. Nicholas remained an avid sportsman throughout his life. Nicholas also served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1966. Along with his father, Nicholas owned and operated DiMauro's Dairy Bar in Shelton for nearly 50 years. He was known to his customers and employees as an honest business owner and dear friend. Nicholas married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Christian of Ansonia in 1961. They spent more than 50 wonderful years with one another. Together, they had and raised two children, Lori and Michael. In addition to spending time with his family, Nick's two passions were bowling and golf. He was talented at both, having scored 3 perfect games in bowling, and holds the "record" for most rounds of golf in a year at his favorite golf course, Mill River CC. Nicholas placed a high priority on personal relationships, and was considered a dear friend to all who knew him. In particular, the family would like to thank Frank DeMarco for his close friendship throughout the years. Special thanks also to the Doctors and staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven and the Hospice personnel who made his passing peaceful. Nick is survived by his mother Connie, his wife Nancy, his devoted brother Paul and sister in-law Diane who have supported the family throughout his illness, son Michael DiMauro and daughter-in-law Jodi, daughter Lori Carotenuto and son-in-law Mark, and grandchildren Mark, Alex, Casey, Sebastian, Benjamin, Madison and Brennan, and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to go directly to St. Margaret Mary Church, 380 Long Hill Ave., Shelton on Saturday January 15, 2011 at 10 am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Simlow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital c/o Yale Cancer Center, Office of Development, P.O. Box 7611, New Haven, CT 06519-0611. DiMauro Family:
Nick was a good friend and classmate. My husband, Paul, and I spent many Saturday morning breakfasts at DiMauro's, usually having a chance to "catch up" with him, while we lived in Shelton.
With our sympathy & prayers.

To the Dimauro Family,
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
We are very sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers...
