Nora Laverty Obituary

Nora (O'Neill) Laverty
January 26, 1935 ~ September 3, 2023
Nora (O'Neill) Laverty, 88 of New Haven passed away September 3, 2023 at Masonicare in Wallingford. She was born January 26, 1935 in New Haven to John and Rose (Conefrey) O'Neill. Nora is survived by her two loving and devoted children, Kathleen Bouvier (David) of Wallingford and Sean Laverty (Kathleen) of New Haven along with five grandchildren she adored, Jack Bouvier, Bobby Bouvier, twins, Nina Laverty and Shelagh Laverty and Gia Laverty. Nora is also survived by her three siblings, Hugh O'Neill of New Haven, Robert O'Neill (Bernice) of New Haven and Sister Sheila O'Neill, Ph.D., ASCJ of Hamden, a sister-in-law, Barbara O'Neill of Texas and many nieces/nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings and their spouses, Marcella McArdle (Joe), Jake O'Neill (Corrine), James O'Neill (Mary Lou), Raymond O'Neill and Peggy McHugh (Jimmy) and sister-in-law, Martha O'Neill.
Nora was born and raised in Fair Haven, attending both St. Francis and Wilbur Cross schools. Following her education, she made her home in the Annex section of New Haven, a place that became a central part of her life's story. She worked for Connecticut DOT until retirement and enjoyed her volunteer time at Gaylord Hospital and the Apostles of the Sacred Heart, touching lives through her selfless service.
Nora's life was about her family. When her kids were growing up, she could be found volunteering at St. Bernadette's, St. Michael's and Sacred Heart Academy. Later in life, Nora's face lit up as she joined in the joy of her grandchildren's sports, drama, singing performances and accomplishments. Her skilled hands could weave magic with needles and thread, be it knitting, crocheting, or sewing, creating cherished heirlooms for friends and loved ones. An avid supporter of the UCONN Huskies, Nora's loyalty spanned a lifetime, leading her to attend a Final Four game in person, embodying her unwavering spirit.
She was particularly proud of her Irish heritage and would often be seen at the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, hosting the after-party gathering.
She also loved to travel, venturing across the country and world to enjoy different cultures and experiences. Her spirit, which was as boundless as her love for life, lives on in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
The family would like to thank her Masonicare Ramage 4 family, that took great care of her for over a year and showered her with love and dignity during her final days.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday (TODAY), September 8, 2023 in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home & Cremation Service (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Bernadette, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven with Committal to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Hamden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nora's memory to the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Retirement Fund, 295 Benham St., Hamden, CT 06514.
