Norma Diamond Obituary
Norma Helen Diamond, born July 15, 1934, passed away on May 19, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she married the love of her life, Irving (Shelly) Diamond, in 1953. He predeceased her in 1999. Norma and Shelly moved from Brooklyn and settled in Old Saybrook, CT in 1960, where they raised their family and then went on to live their retirement years in Madison, CT. They were owners of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in New London/ Niantic from 1960-approx. 1995. As professional ballroom dancers, they showcased their dancing skills at many venues…performing, entertaining and teaching ballroom dance to hundreds over the years, including several classes of Coast Guard cadets. In addition to being a homemaker and dancer, Norma worked in the Old Saybrook school system as a para professional and found great pride in choreographing many of the Old Saybrook High School musicals. She had many talents, among them playing the piano, writing poetry and short stories and photography, which earned her accolades in several local contests.
She is survived by her 3 loving children, Jay Diamond and his wife Tina, Toby Poccia and her husband Tony, Lisa Streib and her husband Keith; she was also blessed with 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Emily, Samantha, Ben, Erika, Aaron, Stephen. Her recent pride and joy was her great-grandson, Raiden.
Funeral Services will be held at Temple Beth Tikvah in Madison, CT on WEDNESDAY, May 22nd, morning at 10:00 a.m., with a private burial service immediately following at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY. Funeral Arrangements in care of Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home.

Norma displayed enormous patience while teaching me to glide gracefully across the stage during several OSHS musicals.

It´s always sad when family members pass away that you just admired and made you happy like Norma did. She was an amazing lady, fun and just an enjoyable person to be around. My father Donald was her cousin. They grew up together and were very close. My dad adored Norma and her brother. I´m reminded at this time of a story. My dad told me about him having to get his tonsil taken out. Norma had to get hers as well and when they were at the doctors office, my father said to Norma, with a smile, - "Ladies First..." unfortunately, my father went first a few years back. I know that Norma, her brother and the rest of the family are together with Shelly and they´re probably having a grand old time. May her memory always be a blessing.
