Olga Pospolita Obituary

Olga Pospolita
October 25, 2021
Olga (Dubno) Pospolita, 90, of New Haven, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away October 25, 2021. She was the widow of the late Stefan Pospolita. Olga was born in Zolochiv, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine, the daughter of the late Hryhoryj and Emilia Skorna Dubno.
In 1949, Olga emigrated to the United States with her family. As a teenager, her family lived on a farm before moving to New York City. She married her husband and eventually settled in New Haven. She became a U.S. citizen and worked hard, finding employment first with A.C Gilbert and later Southern New England Telephone Co. in New Haven from which she retired in the 1980's.
She was a lifelong and active member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, working for the Church pierogi fundraising project for many years. She was also a member of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, New Haven Chapter 66. She took great pride in her church and was a faithful servant of God her entire life.
Olga's life revolved around raising her family and she was proud of all of her children's accomplishments. She was a doting grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking traditional Ukrainian dishes, especially around the holidays, and was well known for the scarves, afghans and baby blankets she crocheted for family and friends, sewing a special label in each one she gave away, "Made especially for you by Olga Pospolita."
Olga is survived by son, George and daughter-in law Irene Pospolita; daughter, Daria and son-in-law Roman Jakubowski; son, Stefan Pospolita and daughter-in-law Karen Avitabile; and daughter, Natalie and son-in-law Jonathan Silverstein; her three adoring grandchildren, Emilia, Archie and Alaina Silverstein; her sisters, Irene Hladkyj and Luba C. Dubno; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Orest T. Dubno. Friends may call at the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (corner of Dwight Street) in New Haven on Friday, October 29, from 2 to 5 p.m. A panachyda service will begin at 4:30 p.m. All are invited to attend a funeral service at St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George St., New Haven, on Saturday, October 30, at 10 a.m., followed by interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Olga's memory to: St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George St., New Haven, CT 06511, or The Ukrainian Museum, 222 E. 6th St., New York, N.Y. 10003. The family requests all those who wish to attend the visitation or the funeral service be fully vaccinated and remain masked while indoors.

Natalie, I was very sorry to hear about your mother's passing. I am glad I saw her in the office not long ago and I am also happy we had a chance to catch up. I recall she was a great baker! My condolences to your family. Michael
